Meeting of USk Germany in Hamburg | 30.08.–02.09.18

A tiny part of the »Deichtorhallen / Haus der Photographie«

An old Police-vessel, now towed at the historic harbour at »Hafencity«; sketched during a workshop of Joao Albergaria (entitled »The Intimacy of boats«).

Sketches from »Harrys Hamburger Hafenbasar«. This wild mixture of exotic wooden masks, little statues, stuffed animals and even some shrunken heads (maybe faked, maybe authentic) is located inside an historic floater crane.
The »Fleetschlösschen, as seen from the opposite side of the »Fleet«.

A vintage car was also at hand – a Morris Minor 1000, parked next to »Hoheluftbrücke« Metrostation and »Isestraße«.
Not too big, but quite famous: the »Oberhafenkantine«, slightly inclined because of eroded ground

V Urban Sketchers Workshop in Ischia (Part II)

Sketches done during the workshop, when strolling around Castello Aragonese and Ischia Ponte.

V Urban Sketchers Workshop in Ischia

Finally I’ve managed to scan most of the images created during the Workshop with Simo Capecchi, Caroline Peyron and Ch’ng Kiah Kiean (aka ‘KK’). Below my results of Simo’s reportage-session, were we visited an underwater-excavation site by boat and gained insight in the work of the divers and the wrap-up of all the findings by an archeologist.

Frankfurt x 2

Trying to be a it less lazy with scanning and uploading here: two sketches done in Frankfurt. The first one shows a pavillon of a korean garden inside the Grueneburgpark. The second sketch shows the so called I.G.-Farben Haus, built in the late 1920s, now housing a part of the University of Frankfurt.

Ruhpolding

Spent a few days in the bavarian alps in the small town of Ruhpolding. Arrived in a cold but greenish setup. Winter arrived one day later. It snowed for hours, turning the landscape into a winter wonderland... I gave it a try and sketched the chapell and church of St. Georg on top of a hill in the middle of the village. And also visited the "Heimatmuseum", sketching historic local items.

Limburg

End of November the regional USK groups of Rhein-Main and Cologne/Duesseldorf met half-way between Frankfurt and Cologne to sketch the old part of Limburg with its cathedral and lots of frame houses. So, no need for straight lines and right angles – very much appreciated!

Tug boat at Douarnenez historic harbour
Visit in Douarnenez, where I met the awesome Rolf Schroeter, who incidentally spent his familiy holidays not far away from our place. You can see his version of the historic tug boat »St Denys« on his blog (in fact, his sketch is way cooler than mine ;-)).

Phare d’Eckmühl
One of the highest lighthouses in Europe: Phare d’Eckmühl. Well, at least that’s the top of it.

Hamburg

I’ve spent a day in Hamburg, strolling around »Hafencity« with its newly built parts and restored historic old warehouses. One of them houses the Maritime Museum (Maritimes Museum), which is absolutely worth a visit.

The »Museum für Kunst und Handwerk« displays collections of Graphic Art, Poster, Photography and New Media, Design, Fashion, Musical Instruments and Ceramics. I’ve came for the »Christoph Niemann«-exhibition and had a glimpse look into the design section, where a visitor should, in any case, step into the psychedelic »Spiegel«-canteen by Werner Panton from the 1960s ...
